Onike Shorunkeh-Sawyerr

  • Onike Shorunkeh-Sawyerr is an Advisor for the Project Migration and Development Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Germany. She has a Magister degree (MSc equivalent) in cultural anthropology, sociology and political science at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz.
  • Gender relations and women’s rights have always been of particular interest to her. Not only has she experience in implementing Corporate Social Responsibility projects (Assam, Northeast India) but has also worked with organizations such as the Heinrich-Boell Foundation. During her research project on return migration in Freetown she has come across activists from Pride Equality and has witnessed the enthusiasm and firm conviction with which the staff approaches their work
  • She completely supports the vision and mission of advocating for and defending the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community in Sierra Leone and worldwide. She is currently based in Mainz, Germany and is thrilled to help establish links between the LGBTI movement. She provides Pride Equality with technical assistance, resource mobilization and networking activities as well as research and documentation.
